Unión Central Comunitaria was born of the belief that every person deserves access to compassionate support and a community they can count on. We started right here in Raleigh, rooted in the needs of our neighbors.
Our organization grew out of a recognition that Latino families in our community face unique challenges: language barriers, complex immigration systems, and limited access to critical resources. We knew something had to change, and we knew we were the ones to help make it happen.

Our Mission
Union Central Comunitaria is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide assistance and resources to significantly improve the quality of life for people in the community through direct services, education, support, advocacy, and referrals.

Naturalization
Ready to become a U.S. citizen? We’ll help you understand the eligibility requirements, prepare your application, and get ready for the naturalization interview so you can take this important step forward.
Consular Processing
For families navigating the visa process through a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, we provide guidance to help you understand the steps, gather the right documentation, and move through the process smoothly.
TPS
Temporary Protected Status can provide critical relief for individuals from designated countries facing unsafe conditions. We can help you determine your eligibility and walk you through the application process.
DACA
If you came to the United States as a child, DACA may allow you to live and work here without fear of deportation. We’re here to help you understand your rights and apply or renew your status.
Family Petitions
Keeping families together is at the heart of what we do. We can help U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents navigate the family-based petition process to bring their loved ones closer.
VAWA
The Violence Against Women Act provides protections for immigrant survivors of abuse. If you or someone you know needs help, we offer confidential, compassionate support to help survivors access the protections they deserve.
Biographies
Rafael López
Rafael López was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and is one of three siblings. He came to the United States during his teenage years and is now married and the father of three children. Since 2009, he has worked as an accredited immigration specialist for nonprofit organizations. He also has experience as an accountant, real estate agent, and notary public. Rafael has extensive knowledge of immigration laws and procedures, and he is known for his commitment to the community and his desire to help others. In 2012, he helped establish Casa El Salvador and Chosen Angels, a club that supports children and teenagers through soccer. In his free time, he enjoys reading, going for walks, camping, spending time outdoors, and working in his garden.
Raúl Ramírez Lara
Raúl Ramírez Lara was born in January 1984 in Veracruz, Mexico. He is married and the father of six children. He came to the United States in 2005, at the age of 22, and currently works in the construction field. Raúl is dedicated to his family and committed to helping those who need it most. In his free time, he enjoys going to the beach with his family and playing basketball.
Josué Castaneda
Josué Castaneda was born in Zacapa, Guatemala, and is the oldest of three siblings. He moved to the United States in 2014 with his family in pursuit of the American dream. He graduated from Rafael Landívar University with a degree in Business Administration, specializing in international trade. He currently works as a painter for a local company. In his free time, Josué enjoys traveling and discovering new places with his family. He is also a committed community leader who is always willing to help those most in need in the community.
Ana Soria
Ana Soria was born in Catamarca, Argentina, and has eight siblings. She has lived in the United States since 2019 and is married. She enjoys traveling, reading, researching, and sharing Mate drink with her friends. She is also very dedicated to her family. Ana studied and graduated in her home country in Special Education, with a specialization in people who are deaf and have disabilities in oral communication. She is an active community leader in the areas of organization and planning, where she seeks to develop effective strategies to strengthen community work.
Saúl Marenco
Saúl Marenco is originally from El Salvador and came to the United States in 1999 with the dream of building a better future for his family. Since then, he has built a life guided by faith, family, and service to others. He has been married for 31 years, is the father of four daughters, and is the grandfather of one grandson. For more than 18 years, he has worked with teenagers, leaving a positive impact on his community through his dedication, spiritual commitment, and desire to serve. Saúl cares deeply about the well-being, unity, and growth of his community.
José Luis Álvarez
José Luis Álvarez came to the United States in August 1988, when he was 21 years old. For several years, he volunteered with the New York City Department of Corrections. In 2007, he moved to North Carolina, where he has continued serving others with commitment and enthusiasm. As a community leader, he finds great satisfaction in contributing to the well-being of others.
Unión Central Comunitaria is a Raleigh, North Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to empowering families through immigration assistance and community support.
